‘Market Basket’ Queen Victoria Market Tram Stop

Inspired by mornings at Queen Victoria market, the design celebrates market culture in Melbourne. Filling your bag with fresh eggs, herbs, veggies and pasta the illustrated pattern incorporates popular items that fill tote bags and trolleys of market goers who jump on the tram to take their goods home. The jumble of produce creates a dynamic design and encourages the community to shop local and buy from markets. In my practice I explore the intersection between traditional and digital methods of image making. The illustrations have been hand painted using gouache and watercolour to create a composition that is adaptable and dynamic. Hand painting is a much slower and demanding process, providing the artwork with a sense of time luxury and slower culture, a nod to the slower process of shopping at local markets.
